The Demon and The Sorceress
I was one of the most feared demons that the world had ever known. When darkness dawned upon the land, I was the name that everyone screamed. I thought I was on top of the world… that is until I met her.
I dwell in the deepest trenches that Hell can offer a demon. I spent years torturing the damned as their screams filled my lustful ears with pleasure. But I soon grew bored with my life of leisure. I wanted to see the outside of Hell and have a little fun. So I inquired the Head Demon to see if my wish was to be granted.
“No,” he snapped. “Absolutely not; a demon is forbidden to leave Hell until night fall.” “But I want to see the day,” I started. “Other demons do as they so please.”
“Ebola,” the Head Demon started. “You are my prized demon. I could never let you know the dangers of the outside world.  Now go back to the torture chamber and disembowel those souls.”
I was infuriated as he waved me off with his usual toothy grin. As I headed back to the torture chambers a thought hit me: If I sneak out, then he can’t deter me from having the time of my life.  So I quickly looked around to see if anyone was around and then I jumped into the portal leading to the outside world.  Once through the portal, I walked along the Crystal River shore, admiring the scenery as I went along. Then as I wasn’t paying attention and bumped into what looked like a human woman.
“Watch where you’re going,” she snapped. “You almost dislocated my shoulder!”
I started to say something out of sarcasm until I happened to steal a look at her face. She was as gorgeous as the sun is bright. The lighting of the area made her pink lips glisten with sparkle of a starlit night.  I was in complete awe as she dusted herself off and shouted to me again.
“Well aren’t you going to apologize?” she screamed. “I-I-I-,” I stammered. “I am truly sorry that I didn’t watch where I was going. I’m actually new to the area.”
“Well,” she said calmly. “Just be careful next time.” She looked me up and down. “Wait, you’re not even of the world are you?”
“No,” I began. “I’m actually from the underworld. I wandered up here to see what the outside of Hell looked like during the day.”
I could not keep my eyes away from hers as she slowly smiled and extended her glorious hand to me.
“My name is Angelique,” she said with a smile. “What’s yours?” “Ebola,” I choked out. “My name is Ebola as in the virus.”
She chuckled at me, showing a slight blush on her face. As I observed the area I could tell that this wasn’t the area that I and my minions attacked every night; to be perfectly honest, it was too peaceful. Angelique then ushered me to follow her down the bank of the Crystal River as she lead the way to a glorious palace beyond the distance of the lake.
“Not to sound rude,” I began. “But what is this place that we’re at?”
“This place, Angelique began. “Is called Angel Cove. This is the area in which I rule over and peace ensues.”
“Wow,” I smiled. “It sounds alright and if you don’t mind me asking, who is king?” “Honestly,” Angelique sighed. “There isn’t one around. I’ve ruled this kingdom alone for the last 2,000 years. I haven’t the right one to rule at my side in all of those years.”
As she stared at me, her face showed sadness at the thought. I actually regretted bringing the subject to her attention as I didn’t want to see tears across her beautiful, lavender eyes.  Just then my Helldar rang away at my waist.
“Sorry Angelique,” I stammered. “I have to leave now, Hell calls.” “I understand,” she said smiling through her sad state. “But feel free to visit me once more when you get another chance. Goodbye Ebola.”
I could swear that I heard her snicker as I walked out of the palace. As I turned to shut the door I could see the pinkish tint that shone one her face. I spread my tattered wings and flew back to Hell for my nightly mission of soul stealing.
After our mission was complete I returned to my chamber in Southern Hell.  As I tried to sleep that night my mind stayed on Angelique. I began to wonder about her and question the blush across her cheeks.  It seemed to me that it wasn’t an accident that we ran into each other that day.  I wondered why she blushed so hard when I introduced myself.  As I turned over in my pit, I tried not to ponder it too hard.
The next day I snuck back through the portal to Angel Cove. I walked down the shore of Crystal River and to the doors of Angelique’s palace. I knocked on the door and awaited and answer.
“Well hello again Ebola,” came this voice from nowhere. “It’s nice to see you again.” “Where are you,” I snarled. “Show yourself.”
Angelique appeared out a pink puff of smoke. I fell to the ground as it filled my senses with smell of fresh cut flowers.
“What the hell?!” I snarled.  “Oops,” Angelique said with a grin. “I forgot to mention that I’m sort of a sorceress.” “Sort of?” I growled. “You nearly caused my heart to leap into my throat.”
“Here,” she smiled extending her hand. “Come on I have day planned for the two of us.”
As I rose from the wet grass, I couldn’t help but feel a bit like something wonderful was going to happen. Angelique led me to an enormous tree on the southern part of Angel cove. Underneath the tree was a feast fit for royalty (how else could a person of her stature live?).  She ushered me to sit down and offered me a glass of blood red wine.
“I really shouldn’t drink too much of this,” I stated “I might fall asleep.”
“Oh suck it up,” Angelique growled. “Drink freely and have a little fun.”
At this point I wanted to beat it out of the area and hide underneath the nearest mountain. But of course I couldn’t get away from Angelique even if I wanted to. After about two hours, we rested in the grass and watched the sky turn different colors. Angelique looked me right in the eyes at that point and spoke.
“Ebola, what do you think about us?” she asked “Us,” I stuttered. “What do you mean us Angelique?”
“I mean,” she stared into my eyes. “I mean would you like to rule by my side here in Angel Cove?”
“Angelique,” I began. “You can’t be serious. That’s just the wine talking through you.” I caught sight of the empty jar. “Why would you….?”
Her lips met mine and in that instant I was in another world. I slowly wrapped my arms around her slender waist and squeezed her tight as I could. I never wanted to leave Angelique at that moment, but night was falling and I knew I had to leave her at some point.
As I flew back to Hell, I heard my name being called out loud. I turned around and caught sight of Asmodeus.
“So this is where you hang out during the day.” He grinned showing his 37 fangs.
“Yeah,” I snarled. “So what of it you snitch bastard?”
“So I was thinking maybe this will be the next target for our Hell-Raising missions,” he smiled. “And as for your lady friend, we’ll just save her put her to work in our personal bordello.”
“You wouldn’t,” I snapped “If any of you so much as lay a hand on her, I will eat you alive myself.”
“You really care for her,” he growled. How dare you betray the rest of us!”
Asmodeus disappeared in a burst of flames with his cackle echoing in the wind. I knew that I had to do something to protect Angelique from the oncoming onslaught. I quickly proceeded to turn back and fly to Angel Cove. I flew to the palace and pounded the door like an atom  bomb.
“You’ve returned Ebola.” Angelique smiled. “What brought you back to me so soon?”
“I’ve come back to decline your offer,” I declared. “In reality I do not really care about you!”
I turned around to Angelique only to see her smile at me. She then walked over to me and wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me deeply.
“I know why you’re acting this way,” she said. “I heard everything that you and your comrade talked about.” “You did?” I asked as I shook within her embrace.
“Yes,” Angelique responded. “He’s planning to bring a horde of demons to attack Angel Cove and destroy all who inhabit her. I know as a demon that it is what you do, but I know you’re different Ebola. You do the job only because you have to.”
I grabbed hugged Angelique tightly and whispered in to her ear: “I love you.”
“We’ll meet again,”  Angelique said. “For now I must save my kingdom and get my people to safety. Goodbye Ebola.”
With those parting words, Angelique chanted an ancient mantra and the ground beneath my feet began to shake. I spread my wings, flew from the crumbling palace, and watched in horror as the entire land seemed to be swallowed by the sky. I could hardly believe that she was gone from me that quickly. Just over the horizon, I heard the army of Hell marching behind me. I could hear Asmodeus’ distinct bark ringing in my ears.
“Ebola,” he began. “This entire land is decimated, did you have a hand in it?”
“Yeah,” I snarled. “I destroyed everything with one blow from my fist. The kingdom is no more and neither is the wench who ruled over it. I disemboweled her personally!”
The entire army began to chant my name as I turned my back on them. Then Asmodeus spoke to me.
“Come Ebola, let’s celebrate your greatest destruction yet!” he smiled.
“I’ll join you minions in a minute,” I sighed. “I’m going to relish in the smell of this burning land.”
The entire army marched back to the pits of Hell. I looked upon what used to be Angel Cove one last time before I spread my wings and flew in an entirely different direction of Hell.
I never returned to Hell after that day. The other downside is that I never saw Angelique again after the day that she conjured that final spell. I stand on a mountain top opposite of where Angel Cove used to be and I think of how I could have prevented this entire situation from ending this way. As I look up into the sky, I see a shooting star and for the first time in my demonic life, tears actually run from my eyes.
I got bored. What else can I say?
